2021 Creative Futures Grant
Through the Creative Futures Grant, Black Artists and Designers Guild is providing opportunities to four selected Black undergraduate and graduate students in Architecture, Design, and Fine Art to receive a $5000 award and a chance to bring their art and design dreams closer to reality.
Obsidian House
OBSIDIAN is a virtual concept house launched by the Black Artists + Designers Guild in January 2021. It represents the organization’s inaugural initiative, designed to invite new conversations about the space of home as a place of thriving for one million Black families. Guided by the belief that Black futures are equitable, sustainable, and liberatory, we have created a virtual space that manifests our collective imaginings.
Orejen Collection, S Harris
The Orejen Collection, in partnership with S Harris, is a one-of-a-kind collection of vibrant fabric textiles, drawing inspiration from three different regions - East Africa, Southeast Asia and Pacific Islands. Our BADG Makers, including Malene Barnett, Rayman Boozer, Linda Hayslett, Beth Diana Smith, and Erin Shakoor, cultivated a collection that increases visibility for the rich history of design in each locale, without the common erasure of historical context that comes when an off-the-shelf brand releases a “Morrocan” line.
